Remember when there used to be such a thing as an actual need for resort wear?
Resort. Sometimes called Cruise. It’s kind of an anachronism that has hung around in the fashion world as a terrific little capsule collection between holiday and spring. Sometimes it’s simply called Early Spring – how boring. But that’s probably due to the fact that most of us are working in January and February instead of sunning on the riviera.
Resort wear usually connotes nautical themes and tends to reference the glamorous riviera of bygone days.

Yellow made a big splash at the 2012 Chanel Cruise wear show in Cap d’Antibes.
Prada held onto the Lady by the Sea look.
Christian Dior – well done Bill Gaytten (Dior’s interim designer until Galliano’s successor is named).
Carlos Miele borrowed the wide-legged pant for his collection.
Jenna Lyons of J Crew.
Versace for H&M resort.
