Resort. Sometimes called Cruise. It's kind of an anachronism that has hung around in the fashion world as a terrific little capsule collection between holiday and spring. Sometimes it's simply called Early Spring - how boring. But that's probably due to the fact that most of us are working in January and February instead of sunning on the riviera.
Resort wear usually connotes nautical themes and tends to reference the glamorous riviera of bygone days.

I'd choose to go to Deauville on the coast of France. This is where Coco Chanel fled to during the war. Very chic, non?

Yellow made a big splash at the 2012 Chanel Cruise wear show in Cap d'Antibes.

Prada held onto the Lady by the Sea look.

Christian Dior - well done Bill Gaytten (Dior's interim designer until Galliano's successor is named).

Carlos Miele borrowed the wide-legged pant for his collection.

Jenna Lyons of J Crew.

Versace for H&M resort.
The 2012 Resort collection is in stores now. Grab it while you can - it's here one instant and gone the next. Literally.
If you miss it, take a look at this beautiful new coffee table book.

And if you are indeed by the sea, please send pictures!
